Here's a preview of our Summer social calendar for 2011:

Adidas Women's 5K Challenge - On Sunday 11th September 9 ladies from Elliott Wood completed the 5K race and managed to raised £1500 which was donated to RedR.

You can click on Read More below for further information about the day and RedR.

Well done team for such a great cycle on a very warm day!

Softball – We’ve had various softball games in Parks around London against Architectural Practices such as David Miller Architects and ESA Architects and Stuart Forbes Architects.

Cricket – Our latest match was against Blenheim House construction at the Barn Elms Sports Centre, where fun was had by all, followed by a few social drinks and snacks at the Red Lion pub afterwards.

Golf
– Our annual EWP Golf Tournament took place on 14th June 2011 at the Moore Place Golf Club in Esher.  An enjoyable walk through the Surrey countryside was spoilt by the need to hit small white balls along the ground. However, everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.

The winners (and losers) were:-
Overall winner - Chris Campbell again, with a fantastic score of 38!
Nearest the pin – Santo Patane again!
Longest drive – Laurence Harrison
Wooden spoon – Gunta Amyot
Best post match analysis – Sarah Wadley

Summer Social – The EWP annual summer social took place on 19th August 2011.  The venue was decided by fair democratic vote and the Kensington Roof Gardens came out on top.   Located near to High Street Kensington, the Spanish Garden was open for some pre-dinner drinks before we moved to the Tudor Garden, where a delicious 3 course BBQ dinner was served.  There was live entertainment in the form of a funky jazz band and for the die-hards entrance into the night club was included.

Elliott Wood Partnership is a firm of consulting civil and structural engineers that provide an excellent level of service for our stakeholders on the design of a variety of building types.  Projects vary in size from small extensions to large major buildings and refurbishments and use a wide variety of materials and construction techniques.

The engineering of all construction solutions has an environmental impact in terms of the materials that are used, the impact of the building on its location, its use and its long term legacy.  EWP has always contributed to innovative, often award winning solutions that addressed such issues through our own ambitions and historically because of clients and designers wanting to address them.  In recent years an awareness of the construction industry’s impact on the built environment has resulted in legislation that has forced the industry to consider and design for such issues and this legislation is ever changing and becoming increasingly more stringent.   The challenge to EWP is to keep pace with the changes and be well informed during the design process to enable us to contribute effectively to the wider debate.

A recurring question is “What difference can civil and structural engineers make; surely it is the M&E engineer’s role to do this?”  The answer comes from the statement that great buildings need great design teams, great builders and most importantly great clients.  It is a team process that allows more sustainable solutions to be found.  Our role in this process is to be aware of the issues and to understand the basic principles of building physics and building construction generally.

Or impact on the environment is not only what we do with our jobs but also how we go about doing it.  This extends to:-

Health and wellbeing in and around our offices

CO2 emissions resulting from our building energy and transport associated with our operations (commuter and business travel)

Water use

Resource use including waste management, consumables and other procurement

Pollution to air and water arising from our operations

Our internal management procedures

Management of our suppliers and contractors

EWP are committed to continual improvement and will take measures through our Learning and Development procedures to progressively limit the impact of our business on the environment, addressing the concerns of our stakeholders.  We will adopt appropriate procedures to achieve this, and will keep these procedures under review.  We will regularly review our suppliers and will reduce the environmental impact of our purchasing and procurement.  We will comply with all applicable legal requirements and other requirements to which we subscribe and are committed to preventing pollution.

Cyclescheme

Tax free bikes

Elliott Wood Partnership are making a decisive move toward more sustainable development. With this in mind we have implemented a Cyclescheme, which allows employees to purchase a quality tax free bicycle through the company.

We provided a secure area for bikes to be stored at our office, and encourage employees to get involved with this scheme. Many of our employees take advantage of this and use their bike as their main mode of travel into and out of work.
