This project involved the design of a 29m high by 16m wide by 10 m deep sculpture on the river Thames. The sculpture is supported on a diagonal steel grillage spanning between four caissons some 4 meters above high tide river level. The superstructure forming the sculpture is made from approximately 3800 galvanised steel 70x70 square hollow section members 1.5m long. These are welded together in a random form to create geometrically complex ellipsoidal cloud of steel.
There is an increased density of members positioned centrally to create the image of a man. This was obtained by the use of a digital scan of the sculptors own body which was then enlarged to the required scale.
Quantum Cloud was the tallest sculpture in the United Kingdom at the time of construction.
