This project involved the refurbishment of two outdated 1980s office buildings separated by a large open courtyard, into Sony Computer Entertainments new European Headquarters.
Structural input included the usual issues of builders work openings, strengthening of the structure to accommodate new plant and different uses and general cut and carve to achieve new layouts.
More involved and imaginative structural input was however required to achieve the new glass roof and hanging glass façade to the courtyard between the 2 buildings. The substantial span between the buildings was achieved using box sections with the glass bonded directly to these. The façade utilised diagonal Macalloy hangers and vertical struts to minimise the size of the main horizontal box sections that supported the glass façade.
