Designed by his Royal Highness The Prince of Wales and landscape architect Jinny Blom, the healing garden was one of the gardens on display at the 2002 Chelsea Flower Show. The theme of the garden was plants with medicinal and culinary properties, and central to the garden was a shelter.
More information
The shelter formed one of the prominent features of the healing garden owing to its intriguing rolling curves with the appearance of a natural form in the Earths surface.
Elliott Wood were initially approached by Jinny Blom as it was hoped that the shelter could be built using timber thinnings with willow weave panels being used between the roundwood structure. However, as the final shape evolved it was found that thinnings were not practical and a light tube frame was subsequently introduced. Although hidden, the framing has a dual function in that it supports the plant roof and acts as a shape former for the willow.
