More information

The Sculptor’s original idea was to produce a single column of bodies mounted vertically.  However, initial calculations indicated that this would have insufficient capacity to sustain lateral loads particularly as this had to be checked for seismic loads due to its location.  It was therefore suggested to couple the bodies back to back connected at the shoulder and calf positions to create a vertical vierendeel structure with significantly greater capacity for sustaining lateral loads than the single bodies.

The connection between the bodies relied on a heat shrink detail to ensure a good fit between the spigot extension of the legs and the recess located at the neck.
