Build New York Live – BIM Award

On Friday, Elliott Wood won the award for ‘Best use of BIM for Design for Community Outreach‘.
Elliott Wood joined forces with a host of other UK based companies to form the BIM4SME Giants to take on the challenge of delivering a fully coordinated BIM Project within 48 hours. The team’s task was to deliver a brief set by Build Earth Live using the power of collaborative working and demonstrating the power of these new paradigms for architecture, engineering, planning and construction.
The brief for Build New York Live was given to us at 5pm on Monday 21st and although extremely comprehensive can be summarised as:
To deliver an indoor sports facility over the top of the Western Rail Yard called ‘Hudson Yards Sports Arena’ which is integrated into high line public space adjacent to it and to design a sixty storey Residential Tower just to the east in a sympathetic and integrated way whilst reimagining the western edge of the Western Yard site.
Hudson Yards is an area isolated for decades by a massive, open rail yard which is being redeveloped as part of ‘The Hudson Yards Redevelopment Project’ by property developers Related Companies and Oxford Properties Group. It will be the largest private real estate development in the history of the United States and the largest development in New York City since Rockefeller Center.
Unlike most other teams involved, the BIM4SME Giants team worked remotely; utilising screen sharing, conference calls, on-line meetings, Asite and Slack to communicate our thoughts and designs effectively.
