Structural Timber Awards – Contour House

We are delighted to announce that Contour House is a finalist in three categories in the Structural Timber Awards 2016.

The categories are: Private House, Self Build & Engineer.

The house, located in the Peak District National Park has a curved form made from dry stone walling which follows the site contours and from where the name Contour House was derived.

In collaboration with Sanei Hopkins Architects and Constructional Timber, Elliott Wood provided the structural engineering that would allow the client and architect’s vision to become a reality.

The 2 storey 100m long curvilinear house required precision engineering, ensuring the aesthetics were not compromised by structural elements. The closely integrated design makes difficult junction details appear clean and uncluttered and with a timber framed superstructure and stainless steel strengthening in key areas, the minimalist exposed structure is a theme throughout.
