The Alder Centre Cycle Classic

Theo Williamson and Will Johnson of Elliott Wood are taking part in The Alder Centre Cycle Classic. A 360km charity ride from London to Liverpool over two days. The group of cyclists will leave from AHMM Architects in London on the morning of Thursday 5 July and be welcomed at the NHS Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool the following afternoon.

This challenging ride will raise much needed funds for the Alder Centre, a new building at Alder Hey that will provide counselling for bereaved parents and anyone affected by the death of a child. The building is designed by AHMM together with PT Projects, Elliott Wood, David Stillman Associates and BBUK.

It is a project that is close to all of our hearts - but has limited funding. Your help will ensure the building is fitted out to create a calm and tranquil place and also pay for planting to make a beautiful garden space for users of the Centre. AHMM staff, members of the project team and friends of the practice are taking part in the ride, and together we hope to raise enough money to achieve our goal.

A little pre-ride Q&A:

Will Johnson:

Are you confident and ready?

As I’ll ever be! Feeling nervous but excited.

Have you ridden this distance before?

Once, but not for two consecutive days!

What are you looking forward to? (not including the finish line!)

Riding in the sun, meeting new people and seeing some new places.

And quickly, anything else before you get the train?

Thanks to EW for encouraging me to take part and to AHMM for organising, it’s a great cause and we hope lots of money is raised.

Theo Williamson:

Are you confident and ready?

I’m as ready as I’ll ever be, considering I found out about this a week ago as someone had to pull out! But I’m always up for a challenge.

Have you ridden this distance before?

Nope! This is totally new to me. Bar a 30km ride last weekend, the furthest I’ve cycled is my commute from my flat in Bermondsey...

What are you looking forward to? (not including the finish line!)

Riding my bosses bike whilst seeing the English countryside. I’ve never been to Liverpool before either so that will be fun.

And quickly, anything else before you get the train?

Big thank you to Gary, Stephen & Emily for all lending me the kit to be a part of this! And please donate what you can to this great cause!
