Two projects shortlisted for the Structural Timber Awards 2021

We’re thrilled to announce that Elliott Wood has been shortlisted for two Structural Timber Awards! Our Sands End Arts and Community Centre project (pictured) and redevelopment of the Hoxton Cinema are both finalists in the Retail / Leisure Project of the Year category.

The use of mass timber, both for its architectural qualities and potential to help decarbonise the building sector, has seen a dramatic rise in recent years.

Quantifying the amount of embodied carbon is often a pivotal argument for choosing to use timber, which is significantly less carbon intensive than its traditional concrete and steel counterparts.

As well as simplifying calculations and detailing in designs, working with timber structures means that supply chains during the build are shorter, clearer and more efficient. Using large scale prefabricated elements ensures fewer on-site deliveries and raises the overall precision of the construction.

Many congratulations to the teams and if you’d like to find out more about the benefits of building with timber, get in touch to speak to our specialist Cross-Laminated Timber team at info@elliottwood.co.uk.
