Sands End Community Centre has received planning permission and is due to start on site shortly. The centre features a café and space for a children’s day nursery which seeks to provide a shared space for art exhibitions and community events. The design was inspired by the 19th century glasshouses built by the distinguished horticulturalist James Veitch. Drawing on its horticultural heritage, and the clients aspiration for high sustainability, Elliott Wood worked closely with @maearchitects to develop a full timber frame. The Glulam columns and beams are augmented by the use of Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) wall & roof panels to provide a comprehensive visible structural solution. #structuralengineering #engineering #clt #architecture #londonarchitecture #glulam #sustainabilityelliottwood_partnership
