Meet Marco Tranchina

Marco, Senior Civil Engineer
We empower our people to think differently about their projects — not just aesthetically and commercially — but for the benefit of the planet and people who use them every day.
We’re highlighting the talented individuals who shape our practice—sharing their journeys, insights, and what life at Elliott Wood is really like.
First up, meet Marco Tranchina. A Senior Civil Engineer who joined us from a larger consultancy in search of more ownership, variety, and purpose in his work.
Like what you read? We’re currently hiring civil engineers to join our purpose-led team.

Why I left a bigger practice for more ownership and variety
I joined Elliott Wood in 2019 looking for a role with more responsibility and project variety. At my previous company, I was one engineer in a larger team. Here, I have more opportunities to lead projects and make a real impact.
One standout project is Langar Airfield, a redevelopment of an old airfield into a warehouse and office complex. We were able to get involved early, guide our client’s aspirations and promote the use of sustainable drainage systems. We managed to include a swale feature, as well as rainwater harvesting and smart attenuation systems. It goes above and beyond the norm and what's dictated by policy, so we call it a SuDS award in the making.

My Career & Chartership Journey
Gaining my chartership was a major milestone, and I was supported brilliantly by my supervising civil engineer. I’m sure it would have taken longer without their help.
Now, I'm looking to become a supervising civil engineer myself. I’d like to emulate what they did for me and help others reach their next step.
Leading my own projects has meant I’m responsible for attending project meetings and communicating across all the disciplines. It’s been great for my professional development and you're also invited to project and social events. I’m learning and my network is growing.

A supportive team and purpose-led company
In my experience, Elliott Wood has been very open to finding solutions that work for each person, whether it's hybrid working or working from different offices. I've always been supported when I needed time off or adjustments to hours.
I like that we're a B Corp. It demonstrates that the company doesn't measure its success on solely financial performance but also environmental impact and considers issues like work-life balance. It fits with Elliott Wood’s ethos of challenging norms and Engineering a Better Society.
