We’re launching our latest guidance for the industry: a regenerative design handbook built around this question.
At Elliott Wood, we’ve spent the last five years exploring what regenerative design means in practice. As our thinking has evolved, so has the need to capture it. Not as a finished answer, but as something to test, challenge and build on.
Because this conversation cannot stay within one organisation.
If we are serious about changing the built environment, incremental improvement is not enough. It requires a fundamental shift in how we define value, how we relate to the natural world, and how we work with each other.
Our handbook, What if every time we built something the world got better, is designed as an accessible entry point into that shift.
It is not a rulebook. It is a starting point. It shares core principles, strips back some of the jargon that can make this space feel inaccessible, and poses questions intended to be taken into real projects.
Regenerative design is not something you add on. It reshapes how we design, construct and live. It asks us to take a more holistic view, and to stay open to changing what we think we know.
This is part of our ongoing journey for us, and for the industry. The real work happens in what comes next.
To design regeneratively is to navigate a complex landscape
From the complexity of materials like concrete to questioning the goals that drive our industry. This chapter is about learning to see the system and understanding how to act differently once we do.
