Construction Declares

Following the launch of our ETHICS Manifesto, on the 3rd October The Building Society will be hosting the first in a series of events to start to try and tackle some of the issues we all face.

Tonight’s event focuses on Construction Declares, a global petition uniting all strands of construction and the built environment. It is both a public declaration of our planet’s environmental crises and a commitment to take positive action in response to climate breakdown and biodiversity collapse.

Building cities has always been a collaborative effort. Collaboration between built environment disciplines has never been more essential than today as we tackle the monumental challenge of turning our cities net zero.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change calls for a reduction in global carbon emissions of 45% to limit global heating to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. This is the emission reduction required to even have a chance of limiting the damage that climate change will cause.

To achieve this requires a wide-ranging declaration of intent.

Construction Declares Climate and Biodiversity Emergency has already been signed by more than 600 architectural practices, and hundreds of structural, civil and built environment practices.

What does the declaration state? How does this change our day to day practice? How can we collaborate to achieve the necessary transformation of our industry?

We are all singing from the same hymn sheet – let’s come together and start practising what we preach!
