Strategies for salvaging and repurposing timber elements from existing buildings – Latest

Hear from Martha Godina as she presents her research on the repurposing of timber within UK construction. Martha was successful in her application to The Worshipful Company of Constructors Sustainability Scholarships for 2021. The programme focuses on primary global challenges that have a significant effect on our industry. The successful scholar continues to work during the 2 year programme, carrying out a research project which will benefit themselves, their company and the industry.

In her research and this presentation, Martha focuses on the relatively new topic of waste timber and how it can be repurposed following demolition or deconstruction. The research was partly conducted by speaking to experts on the topic and has been invaluable to our practice in highlighting the type of projects where the use of second-hand timber could be feasible.

In talking to the industry and sharing that knowledge, Martha has been able to make connections that have benefited our team and will to enable us to work with others to drive change within the industry. It embodies our ethos around collaboration and Engineering a Better Society through learning and sharing with our peers.
