The Structural Carbon Tool named Best Sustainability Initiative at the Memcom Awards

Elliott Wood is thrilled to announce that The Structural Carbon Tool has won Best Sustainability Initiative at the Memcom Excellence Awards 2022!

The Structural Carbon Tool, which we developed with The Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE), is an open-source carbon estimator created to help structural engineers minimise the use of new materials in projects. We donated this tool to the industry to empower all engineering firms to reduce the embodied carbon in their designs – regardless of the firm’s size or resources. We want to assist the industry in Engineering a Better Society by making embodied carbon calculations the norm.

Since its launch in March 2021, this tool has been downloaded over 6,000 times by engineers, designers, and technicians around the world. The Structural Carbon Tool was IStructE’s most downloaded tool of 2021.

This is a fantastic recognition for our team, who have worked so hard to make this valuable tool a reality. We’d like to extend a special shoutout to Director and Head of Sustainability Penny Gowler (pictured), Thomas Howarth, Thomas Hesslenberg and Gary Elliott. Congratulations as well to the IStructE’s Head of Climate Action, Will Arnold (pictured), who won an individual award for Outstanding Contribution to a Membership Organisation in recognition of his work on Climate Action.
