Elliott Wood are working with Shed KM Architects to deliver the gateway residential development adjacent to the new Cross Rail station at Abbey Place.
The development comprises a 22 storey and a12 storey residential tower with retail units at ground floor and tree-covered rooftop amenity spaces.
The site and development have presented a number of challenges in providing the necessary density of accommodation whilst minimising the size of the cores and core wall thickness on a tight marshland site.
The development incorporates Sustainable Urban Drainage (SuDS) which includes green roofs and below ground geocellular attenuation. This significantly reduces surface water run-off from the development site and provides local amenity and biodiversity benefits.
A 3D printed model was ‘grown’ at an early stage, and a wind tunnel assessment was carried out at the Building Research Establishment to inform the necessary mitigation measures across the site to ensure pedestrian comfort was met.
