- Exposed concrete soffits were specified using long-span (12m) precast planks, with all supporting steelwork within the depth of the slab. This provided the benefits of increased thermal mass, omission of ceiling finishes, flexibility of services routing and room layout and maximisation of glazing height.
- Steel plates required to support the planks were designed to act compositely with the steel beams, allowing the steel tonnage to be minimised.
- Following discussions with the steel fabricator, the hollow section columns were changed to open section columns, which despite being larger allowed for simplified connection details and the omission of hollo-bolts.
