Keyworth School, London – Projects

The structure is a two storey CLT ‘box’ with the first floor and roof panels spanning between load bearing CLT walls. The use of CLT floors eliminates the need for down-stand beams or joists, which minimises the structural depth.

In order to accommodate the alternate position of the 8mx9m classrooms, offset walls between ground floor and first floor has been utilised. The first floor load bearing walls are supported from transverse walls acting as deep beams avoiding transfer slabs and hence allowing a shallower structural zone. The deep beams in turn transfer the load directly to the foundations. The proposed roof structure is part dual pitched and part flat roof.

Lateral stability has been provided with the CLT slabs acting as stiff diaphragms the loads to the CLT walls which then transfer the load directly to the foundation.
