Latymer Upper School Sports Hall, West London – Projects

Latymer Upper School sought to both upgrade and construct new buildings across their entire campus. This included replacing the then derelict swimming pool. The new building that replaced the swimming pool both fulfilled the needs of a new pool and also the addition of a new sports and dance studio. The new sports and dance studio sits above the 5 lane 18.5m pool, making full use of the available space. To achieve this ambitious and flexible design, a concrete beam and slab solution was developed to span over the full 18.5m swimming pool.

The concrete floor not only provides thermal mass for comfortable pool and studio temperatures, but also has the inherent self-weight and stiffness necessary to prevent resonant vibrations from sports and dance studio activities.
