Long Acre, Covent Garden, London – Projects

Long Acre,
Covent Garden, London

Elliott Wood Partnership Ltd has been appointed by Transport for London (TfL), with architects Gort Scott Limited, to provide structural and civil engineering consultancy services on the proposed development of 40 Long Acre, London.

The project includes an over-station development (OSD) at Covent Garden Station to introduce an additional storey of office use at 5th floor.

The original Covent Garden Station was constructed in 1906 as a two storey steel frame. This was increased in height in 1965 as an OSD by a further 3 storeys with further load-bearing masonry and an internal steel frame. Elliott Wood were able to find comprehensive archive records of both of these developments with the exception of any foundation details. We have nevertheless justified and agreed with TfL Asset Protection to target any load increases to about 10% at the boundary between the TfL property and the OSD. Further works are also happening internally on existing lower floors to improve vertical circulation and construction robustness.
