Orford Mews, Walthamstow – Projects

Orford Mews is a private mews development within Walthamstow Village. The project will redevelop the existing site, which currently houses small industrial units, into 9 residential dwellings which will sit alongside a commercial/wellbeing building so the residents can ‘live, work and play’ within the space.

The scheme is based on a Carbon and Energy Positive, Zero Waste framework which aims to make this development one of the most sustainable commercial scale developments constructed globally.

Our main aim, and challenge, on the project was to ensure the structure had a low embodied carbon. We therefore strived to make the primary structure as efficient as possible in order to achieve this goal.

We have managed to re-use brickwork, a timber superstructure and rammed earth walls to restrict the use of concrete. Ultimately creating a design that has an embodied carbon intensity of just 36% of the current RIBA benchmark.
