St John’s School, Leatherhead – Projects

Leading independent secondary school St John’s, recently upgraded their sports facilities with an ambitious new multi-million pound development. This included a new swimming pool and a dance studio. As well as providing the very best facilities for St John’s pupils, the pool will be available for use by local swimming clubs and neighbouring schools.

The entire new complex, contains a state of the art fitness gym, Multi Use space which can be used either as a dance studio, meeting space, classroom or small exam space, new changing facilities and of course the main attraction being the new six lane 25m competition swimming pool complete with spectator seating, first floor viewing gallery and competition timing equipment.

Due to the wide range of uses, we offered differing structural solutions for each area to ensure that the structure is fit for purpose and works efficiently. This included a long span exposed glulam portal frame structure for the double-height space over the swimming pool which is supported on a concrete transfer beam, a braced steel frame for the two-storey plant and storage area, while for the dance studio and office areas braced steel frames are proposed up to first floor level with exposed glulam frames above.
