Tree Tops Hospice , Derbyshire – Projects

Elliott Wood worked closely with Matchbox Architects on this new extension to the Tree Tops Hospice in Risley, Derbyshire. The client’s aspiration for a cost-efficient scheme with a ‘wow’ factor was delivered on budget for £1.2m.

The design incorporates a complicated roof geometry, which suited the architect’s intent. By developing standardised interface details between the roof structure and walls, this scheme was delivered cost effectively.

Complexity was built into the steel frame which permitted every beam to be set at slightly different angles and levels. This allowed consistency for the insulation and finishes throughout the building, delivering roof drainage falls with a standard thickness of roof build up and retaining simplicity of detailing to keep the costs down. The extension was completed in 2010.
